Testing and Measurements of Products and Materials

Electrical Safety Testing and Verification (LVD Directive)

Electrical safety aims to protect the end user from electrical hazards, such as electric shock, burns and fire, which may result from the use of equipment powered by single-phase or three-phase mains, batteries or direct current (DC).

Specific electrical safety tests are performed to ensure that a device is safe under all operating conditions, including measurements and tests to verify component insulation, material resistance, the absence of hazardous leakage currents and protection against accidental contact.

These tests are essential for all types of electrical and electronic equipment, whether intended for domestic, professional or industrial use, and ensure that products can be used reliably and safely. Compliance with electrical safety requirements is therefore an essential step before any device can be placed on the market or used in real-world environments.

Test Equipment

Electrical Safety

  • Multifunction tester for insulation resistance, dielectric strength testing (up to 5 kV AC and 6 kV DC), testing of leakage current, touch current and protective conductor continuity
  • Multifunction tester for testing medical electrical equipment
  • Glow-wire test chamber, up to 950°C
  • Thermal measurements system with trihedral support and multi-channel data logger
  • Stable power supplies
  • Multimeters
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Test fingers for assessing accessibility of hazardous and live parts
  • Sound level meter for noise measurements
  • Climatic chambers for hygroscopic conditioning
