Testing and Measurements of Products and Materials

IP Degree of Protection

IP Degree of Protection (Ingress Protection) is an essential activity to ensure that enclosures, housing and electrical and electronic devices are adequately protected against the ingress of solid objects (such as dust or sand) and liquids (such as water or moisture).

The IP rating is defined by the IEC/EN 60529 standard and is expressed by two digits: the first indicates the level of protection against the ingress of solid objects, while the second indicates the level of protection against liquids. Depending on the intended environment of use – domestic, industrial, outdoor or critical – products must meet specific protection levels.

Through laboratory testing using dedicated equipment, such as dust chambers, water-jet systems and controlled immersion systems, it is verified that the equipment enclosure properly protects the internal components and ensures safety and reliability over time.

Our laboratory performs IP rating tests on various types of products, supporting manufacturers in demonstrating compliance with applicable regulations and certifying the declared protection characteristics.

Test Equipment

IP Code (EN 60529)

IPX1–X9 (liquids):

  • Rain or drip chamber
  • Oscillating tube (IPX3/X4)
  • Water-jet nozzles (IPX5/X6)
  • Controlled immersion tank (IPX7/X8)
  • IPX9 testing system

IP1X–6X (solid objects/dust):

  • Dust chamber (test talcum powder with controlled negative pressure)
  • Test equipment for access verification using standardized probes (finger, wire, etc.)
